Are you considering a GLP-1 (Ozempic, Wegovy, etc) medication? As these medications

become more accessible and available it might feel like the best next step for you. You probably know someone (or multiple people) taking them and have heard stories about it being a miracle drug for losing weight, or a GI nightmare.
Here are some considerations to make if you're considering a GLP-1:
💉 Is being on this medication sustainable for you? Weight cycling (losing and regaining weight) can have negative health effects. Make sure that staying on this medication is sustainable for your lifestyle before starting.
💉 Do you have a medical team to assist you? This is both for safety of use as well as guidance and support. This could include a physician, dietitian, therapist, trainer, and more.
💉 How will this medication affect your relationship with food and your body image? Losing weight doesn't always mean better body image. This is one of the reasons that working with a dietitian and therapist are sooo important through this process!
While we are Health at Every Size-aligned dietitians and encourage focusing on behaviors rather numbers, we understand why many might choose a medication to assist with weight loss. That being said, we also believe in body autonomy and believe that each person has the right to make medical decisions that are best for them. Whether or not you choose to take a medication is up to you, but it's important to know all of the facts beforehand!
