What's the Difference Between Body Positivity 🌟 vs Body Acceptance 🤍?

We are in the midst of a body positive movement in our society (which I will say right now is GREAT). This movement has led to normalizing and celebrating people of many different body sizes, more than has ever occurred in the past. It has led to clothing brands that previously only showed thin models, now creating athletic wear for people of all sizes and models who are diverse! It's changes like these that make us believe that the HAES and anti-diet movement is truly making an impact.

Our generation grew up with Barbies and dolls that were only one size, and don't even get me started on the Disney Princesses 🧜🏻‍♀️🧚‍♀️! Even both of these brands have come a long way in creating more realistic standards for young girls. While being positive about body is diversity is AWESOME we know that in reality, not everyday is always great, and sometimes instead of spreading consistent positivity, we just need to accept and appreciate the body we are in.

⭐️ Body positivity and body acceptance are similar in that they both refrain from negative talk about our own body & personal appearance or the bodies/personal appearances of others.

⭐️ Body Positivity is celebrating all types of bodies, but implies that there is nothing we want to change, or that we do not see any imperfections. While in theory, this is great, it's not always realistic.

⭐️ Body Acceptance involves understanding that there are some things we can’t change about our body. If you've been following along with our posts, you know that we all have comfortable weight ranges that our body likes to stay within (called set points), and that these are impacted by many different factors. We are not all made to look the same, and we might not always love everything about our body, but this is normal and OKAY.

What is more important than consistently being positive about our body, is how we cope on days where we don't feel great about it. This happens to everyone, and getting through these days is what takes work and guidance. If you're looking to gain food freedom, and learn to love the body that you are in, we can help 🤍
